COAF invites architects from all over the world to participate in an open architectural competition for its second COAF SMART Campus in Armenia’s Armavir region.

Inspired by the success of the first COAF SMART Campus in Lori (2018) as a model of sustainable development and contemporary education hub, COAF is seeking to duplicate such ecosystems in every region of Armenia, continuing with its birthplace Armavir region, where COAF’s rural development initiatives by COAF Founder Dr. Garo Armen kicked off back in 2003.

The COAF SMART Campus in Armavir, a region known for its fruit farming and viticulture, will include a COAF SMART Educational Center, Events Center, and Agricultural Lands.

The 90-hectare site is located in a serene area offering views of Mounts Ararat and Aragats stretching on the horizon. The area is 55 km (34mi) away from the capital of Yerevan.

“The COAF SMART Campus is about a concept. Hence, we announced an architectural competition as we had the concept first, and now we want to find the architect who can realize our concept most creatively. The international competition increases the likelihood of receiving creative-minded projects. Second, we want to make Armenia part of global happenings — with this step, the advancement of rural Armenia is taking a global level. And finally, we’re expanding our partners globally, which translates as progress for our organization and the country,” explained COAF Managing Director Korioun Khatchadourian.

The architectural contest is a forward-looking step not only for COAF but also for Armenia.

“The number of international architectural competitions organized during the independence of Armenia does not exceed ten. I hope that we will be able to create an open and competitive process and have the best architectural concept for the COAF SMART Campus,” mentioned the Competition Jury member Sarhat Petrosyan.

After carefully reviewing the Competition Brief, you should register to participate in the competition. Once the registration is confirmed, you’ll receive the Competition Package with detailed information on the requirements.

Important dates to consider:

  • Deadline for registration: April 22, 2022
  • Deadline for applications: May 2, 2022
  • Jury selection: May 4–6, 2022
  • Award date: May 7, 2022

The Competition Jury panel is chaired by award-winning architect Michel Mossessian and composed of internationally renowned architects and representatives of educational institutions.
